This month's feature, owned by Dave Chambers, has undergone a number of changes since it was brought into the country from the States. The 2000 W900L Kenworth was originally run by Mike and Andrea Whitell. They had the huge Aerodyne sleeper removed and the chassis shortened by 2.5m. In 2005 Dave was given the opportunity to be an owner driver for Fluidex and purchased the big Kenny.
Based in Morrinsville, Dave's work takes him to Kaitaia down to Wellington. Inside the trailer tanks a range of chemicals are transported from the Orica plant. Since acquiring the truck a new 620 Signature Series II engine has been put in, as the previous engine blew a valve. The previous engine did 800,000kms and a year later the truck is approaching a million kms.
Last December the box end bumper, which measures a staggering 22 inches high, was fitted. It was ordered through the internet from the States. Another modification, completed this February, has been the chrome towers fitted to the air cleaners with chrome air intakes. While Dave says there were some who were not in favour of the raised air intakes on an American long nosed Kenworth they certainly add a Kiwi influence.
